Euthanasia

‘To die or to live that is the question’ this is a famous phrase from ‘Hamlet’ by Shakespeare. The situation is slightly different but it could also be applied on the matter of Euthanasia. Human being’s life should be a procedure of happiness and full of satisfaction. It is undeniable that there are no lives without any pains, however, in a situation of dying and if there is not any chance of overcoming and most importantly under the agreement, Euthanasia should be legalized because it is better for patients to end their lives with smile rather than suffering until their last day and this decision can help not only patients from agony but also their families in term of finances, stress and pain.
To begin with, the Euthanasia matter is still being argued and people against euthanasia asserts that euthanasia violates human rights that no one should be killed. However, their assertion is contradictory. Because human beings are also have rights to pursue their happiness. Therefore, people in vital illness or vegetative status claim to die or made an agreement before, their requirements should be respected because it is their way of pursuing happiness. For example, there was a case in Asia that patient’s family sued hospital for undergone euthanasia on patient. However, hospital was announced innocent because it was patient’s decision and his will was reliable enough. This proves that euthanasia is one way of satisfying their lives. More extremely, we have no right to attack or blame who committed suicide on their own will. Thus, it is not family’s or others but owner themselves right to decide whether to live or not.
Moreover, Euthanasia not only saves patient from unwanted agony but also helps families from financial problem. Countries against euthanasia are artificially prolonging patient’s life which is forcing patients to take medicine, operation and imposing high fees on care givers. This will end up bankrupting average care-givers after the patient’s death. Euthanasia can prevent people from those second pains. For example, Netherland’s rate of Euthanasia gradually increased since the first year of euthanasia in 2001. This phenomenon is due to Netherland’s well established procedure before undergoing euthanasia and people thought it was the real meaning of public welfare. As a result the public’s satisfaction and euthanasia supporters are increasing, this emphasizes that euthanasia is a policy which fulfills both patient’s and family’s satisfaction.
Lastly, Euthanasia saves care-givers especially family from mental pain and stress. Mental pain and stress is something which automatically avoided by human instinct. These mental agonies can affect their entire life. If people cannot function properly because of this, it cannot be considered as a small loss. According to famous utilitarian Jeremy Bentham, he asserts that quantitative benefit is a true public benefit and this idea developed to public welfare. This also means that minority should abandon their benefit if it benefits majority. Bentham’s assertion can be applied on euthanasia as well. Since Euthanasia only be conducted under family and patient’s mutual agreement, doing euthanasia will not be as sad as watching them dying and because it helps other family members to maintain their rationalities so it doesn’t affect majority. .
In a nutshell, by legalizing euthanasia it helps patients and their care-givers from financial, mental pain and stress and human right matters. In ancient Greece there was Epicurus school party, they pursued a mental state called ‘Ataraxia’ which means ‘mentally calm status without any pain’ which is very similar goal of euthanasia. As Ataraxia brought peace and cultural development in ancient Greece I am sure that euthanasia will bring positive outcomes as Ataraxia did.

CONFLICT

Do you think it would be a better world if there were not any conflicts? Our lives are full of conflicts and it does not seem that it can be permanently eliminated. On the other hand, it is undeniable that those endless conflicts helped human being to develop until today. However, this development was possible because conflicts were well managed. There are three strategies of conflict management: respecting other’s dignity and right, finding mutual benefit points and being able to adopt the perspectives of others. With these conflict managing strategies, human beings will be mutually benefited through conflicts.
To begin with, as a human being we cannot avoid conflictions, however with the attitude of ‘respecting other’s dignity and right’ will bring better result than expected. To illustrate, black people are influencing the world in various fields of activities such as music, sports. However, all they could do was endless working and hardly anyone was treated as a human by white people just few hundred years ago. It is known that black people regained their rights through conflict against white. However, they wouldn’t able to liberate from overwhelming white’s power without few white’s mutual respect virtue. For example, Abraham Lincoln the 16th president of America played a great role for black people’s dignity and abolition of slavery. Lincoln respected black’s rights and as a result we have come to the world where all colors living in harmony.
Moreover, conflicts can be solved only when both opposing side’s benefits are secured. In other words finding mutual benefit points are essential to solve the conflicts because neither of the conflicting sides wants any losses. This strategy usually evokes positive outcomes. For example, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) policy was applied all over the world few years ago to set the price of the trading goods on the reasonable prices. However in the beginning of application, many countries were resisted and complained that FTA lowers their benefits and increases other’s and ended up conflicting against FTA policy. As a way to end this conflict each country and FTA decided to restrict some goods and set the standard price so all of them can satisfy on their benefits.
For the last strategy it is adopting the perspective of others. This strategy could be a combination of first two strategies mentioned because it can both extract mutual benefits and esteem. This strategy is something which is a basis of not only solution of conflict but also in everyday communication. For example, according to the book written by famous lecturer and writer Dale Carnegie, he mentioned this strategy as a way of accumulating relationship with others. Which gives us an idea that with this attitude from little quarrel to war against countries all sorts of conflicts can be either be prevented and solved.
In a nutshell, there are three strategies to manage conflicts; Respect other’s dignity and right, find mutual benefit points and adopt the perspective of others. Confliction certainly brought development to human but it doesn’t necessarily mean we need confliction. There is a famous maxim from Greek philosopher Socrates ‘know yourself’ it means without understanding ourselves first, it is impossible to understand other things. This attitude will minimize the confliction and amplify harmony.

NEEDS

The more comfortable our lives become the more eager of satisfiaction was persued by human beings. As a result of this eager human beings finally came up the term ‘need’. These days, for average person, their needs would the ‘safety needs’. However, needs are differ by person’s social status and classe. In other words the more luxurious a person’s life is the more likely the individuals will seek needs, such as the satisfaction of mental and self-esteem; whereas, those who are less previledged would persue more basic needs for living.

To begin with, it is undeniable that those who are more previledged seek higher order of needs. Because those needs certain level of requirements. According to Maslow’s hierarachy, there are five levels of needs.  The higher levels get more complex and psychological as compared to the needs from the lower level. Those who are more previledged than others will try to acquire higher level of needs which is the satisfaction of mental and self-esteem. For example, it is not hard to find people who are previledge in many ways such as money or knowledge are doing activities such as painting, writing poem and many other things,  Even if those activities are not their hobbies they are doing this to improve individual’s quality and to be mentally stablized. These activities can hardly be found from average people’s lives. This indicates us that this types of persuing needs usually requires time and a good amount of money which is quite impossible for those who are not as previledged as mentioned ones.

However, for the other group who are referred to as ‘average’ people, they mostly seek lower level of needs and nine out of ten of those average people’s needs would be defined as ‘safety needs’. Due to increasing unemployment rates and decreasing job places, workers in the world are spending their days worrying whether if they would lose their jobs or not. They somehow abandon their rights to improve their quality, they decide to prepare for the worst circumstances. As a result, they cannot spend their money and time for their own needs but for their basic needs of living such as food, clothes and mosty importantly ‘Secured’ tomorrow. For example, according to the survey, average people save most of their incomes preparing for their future but hardly spend any for leisures and entertainment. This result tells us that social status is deciding one’s quality of life as well.

In a nutshell, people who are more previledged usually persue psychological and inner side of satisfiaction. Unlike to them, average people’s needs are basic and much more physical needs for ‘Survival’. Although unpreviledged people could also persue higher standard of needs. There is hardly any chance for them to reach those needs because complex needs requires money and time. However, As famous utilitarian John Stewart Milton said that qualitative needs is more important than quantitative needs, people are needed to persue their needs for themselves because we are all meant to shine.

How to define success

How can success be defined?

It is inevitable for human being to pursue their own success. The idea of success can be varied from something physical and material to one of psychological success. Therefore, success can be defined in many ways and differs from person to person. However, most people would not disagree that physical success is being a rich person, and psychological success is living without any worries and success as being trusted by others.
To begin with, success can be defined as being rich. People usually presume that rich people such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Warren Buffett have succeeded. It is indisputable fact that being rich easily provides and allows us to acquire what we desire. For example, most of the people would have dreamt of or would be dreaming of owning a Lamborghini. Yet, only people who can afford it can own it or elaborate and massive mansions and other fancy cars. Thus, being rich will be inevitably satisfying. Moreover, being rich can be defined as success because it liberates you from boring daily routine.  Money allows people to spend time on reflection while people who are less well-off desperately find income to satisfy their basic needs and not have such quality time for themselves. For example, owner of the firm usually go on holidays in Hawaii and travels around the world.  On the other hand, however, workers of that firm normally spend more than half of their day on their desks.
Unlike physical success mentioned earlier there are different types of success which consider mental satisfaction more than physical satisfactions. There are two types of psychological satisfaction which are ‘Living without worries’ and ‘being trusted by other people’. First, living without any worries could be much happier than being rich, because millionaires would definitely have worries and concerns. No worries is something very surrealistic ideal however, people find it as a success. For example, Karl Marx and Thomas More wanted to create a Utopia. Their intention was primarily based on living without worries. Although they have failed to create Utopia, human being’s desire of living in Utopia grows bigger and bigger while living in capitalized world. Also, in the movie ‘The Lion King’s famous phrase ‘Hakuna Matata’ is also shows another part which represents human’s basic instinct of living with no worries.
Another type of psychological success is being a trustworthy person.  I believe success is defined as being trusted.  This type of success could be effective in many ways. Because, as long as you are a trustworthy person, you can borrow money from others if you need some, or you can get many investments by other investors if you are a businessman. For example, a famous lawyer who hardly loses gets more jobs than other lawyers. Thus, when we are trustworthy, we can get more opportunities which leads to success.
In a nutshell, being rich is usually defined as success because it provides more opportunities and welfare. Moreover, living without any worries and earning credit themselves can be defined as success because it is what people unconsciously and automatically works to get those two. I believe there are more different types of success people pursue.  However, I think mentally successful is much more important than just being rich. because, when you are mentally satisfied physical part would be fulfilled automatically.

Attitude Towards Writing.

When im in a position of writer, It is difficult to be completely confident to myself and i do not enjoy writing. The reason why i do not enjoy writing is because the writings i have written so far was mostly eassays which was mainly school homework, I wrote essays just because i was forced to do so, Also those essays were only used to grade students which was unavoidable for students to follow conventional and obvious writing formats and topics to get a good marks. These are the reasons why i do not enjoy writing.
Furthermore, I do not feel confident to myself when i write, Not only formal writings such as essay, articles but also creative writings such as poems, tales and so on. Because i have a streotype that writings should be presented, read and assessed by others. I believe this procedure is part of writing as well. Thus, when i write i usually get obsessed to create a masterpiece. This streotype of writing destroys my confidence.
